La Bamba: Ritchie Valens

I found many versions of La bamba, but I like the Ritchie Valens a lot. Ritchie Valens was one of the most famous Mexican-American singer, song writer, and guitarist. He made a hit version of the Mexican folk song "La Bamba" with his rock and roll influence and rhythms. There was even a movie made of his life called "La Bamba". This song is very catchy, fast, and upbeat. Its one of the few Mexican songs I know, I love it!

  1. This is funny because I was just about to post this song, but a different version! I can't even remember when I first heard this song, but at the same time its so well known that I can't remember when I didn't know this song! What i really like about Mexican music is it really reflects the culture - it is, like you said, fast and upbeat, and the Mexican culture really like to focus on a positive light in their music. I really enjoyed Ritchie Valens version, he uses a lot of the same instruments as the version I found, which i think is important because it keeps a consistent sound in the song!
    Thanks for sharing!

  2. I find it interesting that Tarryn's says, "It is, like you said, fast and upbeat, and the Mexican culture really like to focus on a positive light in their music." For me, I used to look at this little different. I guess my automatic view of Mexican music and even culture was always that Ranchera image. The drunk man at the bar, "llorando sus penas", while the mariachi band sings in the background. I'm a little embarrassed to admit it, but for me, the Mexican culture was more about the pains and strides. Luckily I've been able to mature and leave those images behind!
