Mariachi Los Reyes de México from Guadalajara, Jalisco are considered one of the best mariachi show groups of this century. They play a taste of modern mariachi music from Guadalajara, Jalisco. I found this clip on modern mariachi, and found it interesting because the lead singer is female. In almost all of the links i found, none of the members of the mariachi band were female.

ReplyDeleteI commented on another post, because I found it interesting how the gender roles are teased in these performances. This is a very male dominated genre, and the idea that females are feminizing the genre is really cool! They keep the traditional costumes, but add to the music with their high pitch voice. I really love this style.

I have never seen or heard of a mariachi group with a female lead singer. I love how this group goes out of the stereotypical male dominated mariachi groups. Its cool how she keeps the traditional mexican costume and sings in mariachi style. I hear a lot of the instruments that used in traditional mariachi groups, but I find it odd that none of them are wearing sombreros. I also noticed a female violinist! I love how women are in this group, it's great.
